Estimator – Civil & Heavy Highway Construction

Location: Castle Rock, CO

Salary: $80-100k base + 15% bonus

Schedule: Full-time, in-office (with occasional travel to jobsites)

Position Summary:

We are looking for a motivated and detail-driven Estimator to join our Preconstruction Estimating team. Reporting to the Estimating Division Manager and the Project Management Division Manager, this role is ideal for a candidate with strong civil construction experience who can manage multiple projects simultaneously and contribute to high-stakes bids and preconstruction efforts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare accurate, competitive commercial estimates in alignment with company bid procedures.
  • Evaluate and analyze subcontractor proposals and prepare comparison sheets.
  • Review project specifications, drawings, and owner requirements with the Estimating team.
  • Develop and submit complete bid proposals including detailed cost breakdowns, clarifications, scopes, and exclusions.
  • Coordinate Requests for Information (RFIs) and distribute job addendums as necessary.
  • Generate material and quantity takeoffs and assist in scope development for all trades.
  • Price design changes, owner revisions, and subcontractor change orders, including written narratives and drawing overlays.
  • Create comprehensive bid books for Owners and Project Managers.
  • Support post-bid buyout and project turnover processes.
  • Participate in value engineering and cost-saving analysis.
  • Attend weekly construction meetings and maintain communication with subcontractors.
  • Prepare detailed project budgets and assist in job purchasing decisions.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and subcontractors.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by management.

Required Experience:

  • Minimum of 2+ years of experience in civil or heavy highway construction estimating (5+ years preferred).
  • Strong background in underground utilities, earthwork, roadway reconstruction, and site development.

Required Skills:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Project, and HCSS (or equivalent construction estimating software).
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Excellent negotiation and subcontractor management skills.
  • Customer service-focused with a collaborative, team-oriented mindset.

Physical Requirements:

  • Primarily office-based role with prolonged periods of sitting.
  • Occasional site visits required; must be able to lift up to 50 lbs when needed.
