A rapidly growing hedge fund with deep roots in power markets is hiring a Head of FTR Trading to lead a brand-new desk as part of its next phase of expansion. With a strong foundation in advanced analytics, proprietary technology, and deep market expertise, the firm is well-positioned to scale its footprint in transmission markets.

This is a unique opportunity for a senior FTR expert to build the function from the ground up, working alongside experienced professionals in quantitative research, technology, and trading.

As Head of FTR Trading , you’ll be responsible for designing and executing the firm’s FTR strategy—building infrastructure, hiring and managing a team, and taking full ownership of performance across major ISOs.

Key Responsibilities

• Build the FTR Desk: Develop the overall trading framework, models, and tools required to launch and scale FTR operations.
• Leadership: Recruit, manage, and mentor a high-caliber team of traders and analysts.
• Strategy Execution: Design and execute FTR trading strategies across nodal markets and auctions.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with other traders, analysts, and engineers to support forecasting and execution.
• Risk Management: Implement robust risk frameworks for capital allocation, exposure, and stress testing.
• Regulatory Insight: Monitor and adapt to evolving ISO rules and regulatory changes impacting congestion markets.

Candidate Profile

• 5–10+ years of experience in power trading, with a strong track record in FTR/CRR/TCC markets.
• Deep expertise in ISO auction mechanisms and congestion modeling.
• Proven success in FTR trading.
• Strong quantitative skills and a strategic, analytical mindset.
• Entrepreneurial, hands-on approach; comfortable in a build-from-scratch environment.
• Leadership capabilities.
