The Store Manager is responsible for maintaining a healthy, efficient, and smooth operation across shifts, acting as the second in charge at The Palm Coffee Bar. As a hands-on leader, the Store Manager will not only oversee the day-to-day operations but also work alongside the team in various roles such as Barista, Barback, and Cashier as needed. This role ensures all team members are performing to their full potential and meeting established standards. The Store Manager acts as a key liaison between the team and upper management, focusing on customer satisfaction, product quality, team effectiveness, and staff development.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsibilities
LEADERSHIP:

  • Lead by example using company guidelines, culture standards and training resources.
  • Mentor, support, and oversee team members to deliver exceptional service, adhere to coffee quality standards, and complete tasks to the highest standard.
  • Manage shift pace, timing, and task delegation to ensure smooth and efficient workflow.
  • Assign workstations and responsibilities, providing feedback and direction to optimize team performance.

SUPERVISION & TEAM DEVELOPMENT:

  • Directly oversee baristas and cafe staff, conducting regular check-ins, providing constructive feedback, and addressing performance issues.
  • Conduct onboarding and training sessions for new staff, ensuring they understand their roles, expectations, and company standards.
  • Support the ongoing development of team members by identifying opportunities for growth and implementing training programs.

OPERATIONAL OVERSIGHT:

  • Use the Conneteams app to manage and document daily tasks, communicate updates, and track shift completion.
  • Maintain an active group chat with other managers to report incomplete tasks or challenges impacting operations.

CASH HANDLING & REGISTERS:

  • Oversee end-of-shift till counts and ensure secure and accurate cash drops.
  • Handle financial discrepancies and ensure till security during shifts.

INVENTORY & DELIVERIES:

  • Manage the receipt of deliveries, confirming order accuracy and quality.
  • Delegate tasks as necessary but ensure final checks are completed by the Store Manager or Supervisor on duty.
  • Take responsibility for training team members in inventory processes and tracking.
  • Oversee inventory counts, adjustments, and orders using the Xtra Chef app, and coordinate with the Owner for adjustments based on business trends or seasonal needs.

ORGANIZATION & MAINTENANCE:

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and accessible front and back of house, setting the standard for all team members.
  • Address and resolve customer complaints promptly and effectively.
  • Ensure adherence to FIFO (First In, First Out) protocols, including marking out expired items in Xtra Chef

TEAM MANAGEMENT:

  • Schedule and ensure all team members are taking required breaks and that shifts are adequately covered.

COMMUNICATION:

  • Keep team members informed of any operational changes, including stock levels, preparation changes, or product updates.
  • Address customer complaints and take action to resolve issues.
  • Collaborate with fellow Supervisors to ensure smooth shift transitions and effective communication between shifts.
  • Engage with the Owner, providing insights, updates, and suggestions to optimize operations, training, and workflow.

QUALITY CONTROL:

  • Regularly taste and assess beverages to maintain quality standards across coffee and other drinks.

Skills
REQUIRED SKILLS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Prior experience in a specialty coffee shop or coffee shop environment.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and team management skills.
  • Proven ability to train and mentor staff effectively.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Must have open availability during business hours & be able to work weekends & special events.
  • Must be able to complete all tasks of a Barista as needed (including dialing-in espresso)
  • Ability to stand for up to 4 hours at a time and lift up to 30 lbs.
  • Current Food Handlers Certification and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to manage time effectively and prioritize tasks.
  • Effective communication skills to relay clear, appropriate information to the team.
